©Emmanuelle Lemoine Spanish high-couture brand Balenciaga is under fire for its recent Spring-Summer 2023 Gift Shop campaign amid child-abuse allegations. The photos – which have now been removed – showed children holding teddy bear bags styled with BDSM gear. Creative designer Demna Gvasalia joined the eponymous brand in 2015 and has successfully upheld its legacy whilst adding his innovative touch. The Georgian designer was in Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2022. However, the tables seem to have turned. Both the brand and Demna are facing backlash following not just one, but two controversial campaigns. The first issue of contention is the Spring-Summer 2023 Gift Shop photoshoot. Children are photographed either holding or standing next to the new teddy bear bags.
