West Ham manager David Moyes hails impact of African players in Premier League

Newly appointed West Ham United manager David Moyes has praised the quality of African players in the Premier League.

Moyes, who was appointed following the sacking of Slaven Bilic, has worked with African players for the last 25 years.

When Moyes first joined Everton in 2002 as the first team coach, he signed now-retired Nigerian footballer Joseph Yobo.

“African players have always been important to the development of the English game and they are one of the reasons we are great,” Moyes told Westminster World.

African players such as Didier Drogba, who is regarded as a Chelsea legend following a glittering eight year career, and the swift Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah, who has Liverpool fans dreaming of winning the Premier League this season, are just a few names to mention in the category.

According to a recently published article on the dailymail online England is third only to Italy and Germany when it comes to the leagues which have the highest number of African players.

Moyes, like every experienced coach, is of the view that there will be more great African players that will grace the game here in England.

“We have had some of the best come here and compete really well but I have been to Africa and I am certain that there will be a lot more to come in overachieve.”

Playing in the English Premier League is regarded as the pinnacle of success in a footballer’s career and it will be interesting to see how the younger generation of African players will compare to their predecessors.
