Saudi Arabia was one of the last standing Arabic nations that still denied women a right to vote. That all changed on December 12th of this year. Their reigning monarch, King Abdullah had announced in the previous elections of 2011 that come 2015 women would be able to vote and apply to be candidates for elections as well. The country has come a long way with this recent development but they still do have a long way to go. Saudi Arabian women still have many restrictions such as not being allowed to drive and their ‘guardian’ who can be any male related to them, can prevent them from working, travelling, opening a bank account or getting married.
