Immunotherapy trial sees record-breaking cancer remission

A trial of immunotherapy has lead to remission in 90% of terminally ill blood cancer patients. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting on Monday highlighted the discovery. Prof Stanley Riddell, from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, lead the study and spoke at the meeting this week. He explained that in his study, all other treatments of the patients’ cancer had been unsuccessful and the patients had only a two-to-five month life expectancy. He went on to state that after a single dose of the trial therapy, more than 90 per cent of patients went into complete remission.
