PriceWaterhouseCooper, the accountancy firm in charge for the ballot counting process at the Academy Awards, has issued an apology clarifying its error for the Best Picture winner.
The Oscars 2017 winner for best picture is “Moonlight” but only after “La La Land” was incorrectly named.

Within hours of the mix-up, a spokesperson for the company announced: “We sincerely apologize too Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture.”

The released statement said: “the presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected.”

The La La Land team was on stage for their acceptance speeches when the mistake was discovered.
PWC’s mistake has led to calls for it being removed from the Oscars, despite its 83-year responsibility in the balloting process.
