Jennifer Lawrence to play Fidel Castro’s lover

Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is all set to play another real life character in the upcoming film ‘Marita’.

The script is said to be written by American Hustle writer Eric Warren Singer. Lawrence plays German-born American Marita Lorenzo, Fidel Castro’s lover, who subsequently becomes a spy for the CIA.

The romantic spy drama revolves around Lorenzo’s illustrious journey from being the Cuban dictator’s love interest, to becoming his assassin. Lorenzo, who began her affair with Castro in 1959, fled the nation and joined the anti-communists in the United States. She was also allegedly involved in the assassination of former American President John .F. Kennedy reports Variety.

After American President Barack Obama lifted the embargo on Cuba, the Caribbean Island is being considered as a possible filming location, states the Hollywood Reporter.

Lawrence, who is nominated for her fourth Oscar, is going to produce this film with Matt Tolmach who has produced films like The Amazing Spider-Man. Sony Pictures has picked up this project, and the movie is anticipated to be released in 2017.
