I’m A Celebrity star’s racist past revealed

Tweets have been revealed showing Jack Maynard, 22, using racial slurs and bigotry tweets. Maynard, the brother of singing sensation Connor, entered the I’m A Celebrity Jungle as a YouTube sensation with 1.3 million subscribers.

On his official Twitter account he casually used the N-word and branded people who have tweeted him “retarded” and “f****ts”. In tweets dated six years ago Jack, followed by 650,000 fans mocked gay men, called his friends the racist term and laughed at people with facial disfigurements.

One post from December 2012, he replied to two people using the phrase “retarded f****t”. In another post from February 2013, he angrily replied to a critic: “hahaha shutup you f****t… By the way who hit you with a shovel?”

One racist tweet, posted online in June 2011, said he was “At alices with my n****s!”

He tweeted pics of people with deformities with comments “in his prime” and “Ahahahaha! Sooo funny!” On one image of a black man with bulging eyes he added: “looking greatttt!!”

Jack has since admitted the words he used were “inflammatory” and “insulting”.

Voice of Westminster has contacted Jack’s representatives and ITV press team for a comment.

They said: “Jack is ashamed of what he said in these tweets, many of which were deleted a long time ago and were sent in response to a neighbour who was bullying him. Jack was a lot younger when he posted them in 2012 but realises that age is no defence. He would never use that language now and realises that, as someone who was bullied himself, this kind of retaliatory, inflammatory, insulting language is completely unacceptable.”

Josh Rivers, the editor of magazine Gay Times, was sacked last week for offensive tweets mocking gay people, homeless people and disabled children.

When contacted, an ITV spokesperson said: “Jack has deleted these tweets and has since issued a full apology. While it is no excuse he was a teenager when he wrote these and clearly feels very remorseful. We do not accept language or behaviours associated with that language in camp and give all camp mates a full briefing on our rules.”

Since leaving the jungle, Jack has apologised profusely and has said he wants to go back into the jungle to prove everyone wrong and do a bushtrucker trial.

His time in the jungle lasted as long as Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries, 72 hours.

Jack is the brother of young sensation singer Connor Maynard.

The 23-year-old vlogger took to twitter to apologise to his followers.

He said: “I take full responsibility and regret my mistakes. As an adult, I understand the effect my words have on people, whether I have a big or small platform to speak from. Again, I am so sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed.”

The final of I’m A Celebrity airs on ITV at 9pm on Sunday 10 December.
